Hi Folks,

I have 1988 E30 320iS that has suddenly developed an irritating ticking noise, and as well as that
the exhuast manifold seems to blow when I change down a
gear from 3rd to second, always on the same kind of sharp corners.

Its due for an inspection II in the next couple of weeks, so I'm hoping to get it tackled - any ideas out there what the problem may be ?

Much appreciated ..

-Keith

Could be a few of the manifold studs missing. If it is, I wouldn`t drive it too hard like this as it could cause scorching of the head (according to a BMW dealer who fixed mine when this occured- luckily the head was fine)

Keith - are you bringing your motor to Mondello? Id love to see a 320iS in action.

Actually, is it silver & was up with Robert Furley last June?

Thanks for the expertise, sounds like I've the same problem - hopefully the irrtating ticking will be rid and the M3 "320iS" growl can return ..

Killian - yes its the same car that was up in Furleys last year - getting some minor bits and pieces done.
Was thinking I might pop along as a spectator, although I'm not too sure my driving skills are up to throwing it around a track just yet...

the skill to driving in Mondello (or any track) is to not go overboard. The day is a means to improve your driving skills - not wreck your car.

I echo Killians comments - its a controlled environment where you get to learn about your car and your skills not trash the livin crap out of your car.

Trust me, it took me two years to find an example this
clean, I would be mortified to bend it into any shape or direction.

I reckon though I may head down to Mondello and have browse..
