Have the opportunity to buy a 3.0 CSI but has the following problems:

Needs 2 new fron wings or patched as they have holes in the top
Has a bit of rust near the bottom of the door post
Rust hole under the spare wheel
Electrics need a bit of an overhaul
Bonnet rusty around the grilles
Interior needs replacing
Car has no MOT and would need transporting
Electric windows are not working but I think the fuses are screwed

But does NOT have
Rust around the shocks and the shocks have been replaced
Bulk head seems OK
Engine is a peach and has had a new cylinder head
Brake servos are OK

I would be planning to strip the car down and making a batmobile replica so would anyone recommend buying this as a project car? Is it worth it? I would plan to spend about £5000 on it initially with stripping down welding work and the full respray.

What would you say buy or leave????

Best Regards

John

If you have the time and the money, and you feel able to take the project on then go for it..however, if you have any niggling doubts about being able to complete the work needed, then walk away.

Giving the condition you have described you should be able to get the car for peanuts. It will be worth this to you in parts as a spare for your car. As a project if the chassi is strong then it may be a goer, but it will take time and money. If you are going to do all the work, then you will be able to do it for not much money, but it will take time.

I was thinking of offering £400 for it as he wants to get rid of it (wants £900 but I think that is way over the top for an MOT failure - it would cost him £150 to get it scrapped now). Problem is I need to get it transported from London to Portsmouth - any ideas of the cheapest way to do this???

I paid £450 for my 635, and that had no MOT..still waiting for welding spots at the mo...

Are you a member of the AA or something or do you have a friendly garage nearby who you could flutter some cash at?  They are sually good people and willing to help you recover cars on a non work day or evening..no harm in asking

Anybody know anyone in the hampshire area ideally Portsmouth who would be prepared to give me a price on getting the car moved?
Pay in cash - even someone who could tow me from London to Portsmouth would do I suppose
