Topic: M3 Front Lip Spoiler Posted: 03-June-2004 at 23:14 |
Hi all,
The company whom I bought a Genuine M3 Bumper kit, left out the front lip spoiler.
They sent me the missing spoiler, but with no fixings.
How is the front lip spoiler attached? Is it basicaly screwed in underneath the M3 Bumper, or do holes have to be made separately?
I have e-mailed them tonight, and hopefully should get a reply sometime tomorrow.
Cheers

a genuine M3 bumber has holes in the bumber for the fixings for the lip spoiler. If you have a bumper without holes, don't worry its still genuine BMW, its just a bumper which comes with the m-tech kit, (none M3 cars with "M3 style" bumper come without lip spoiler and different grille). i'd recommend just attachineg the lip with some small self tapping screws.

I would recommend using a fair few rivets rather than self tappers. In previous experience the self tappers can and do work loose over time due to vibration even when they seem to be really tight when you first put them in.
Drill about 12 holes staggered so that it holds the lip at the front and rear of the lip to the bumper above, this will then keep the join tight, and also not look like theres gaps between the 2.
example (exagerated to give an idea):
o o o o o o o o o o o o
o o o o o o o o o o o o
hope this helps

Same here, I have the 328 sport which has M3 bumpers but not the black plastic lip.
Got one from the dealer for just over £30 and used masking tape to hold it in place then drilled small holes and used self tappers - make sure the self tapper has a fairly big head or use washers as mine went thru the spoiler as the holes are fairly big.

the front bumpers on m3 saloons, cabs and 328 sports are all the same part number. the m3 coupe has a different part number and is identical except that it does have pre drilled mounting holes for the front splitter. i reckon if you just drill the holes in the required areas on you sport bumper and bought a bmw fixing kit, this will be as good as anything, the fixing kit wont be as expensive as you'd imagine. ive just fitted the carbon schnitzer version, a little deeper and longer to look at, and mounts in exactly the same way. it was a lot of cash for a lump of plastic with a strip of carbon layed in!
