 Topic: Electric mirrors ONLY work when door open

 I don`t quite like the idea of opening the drivers door when driving along at speed to adjust the mirrors.
BMW noticed my electric mirrors weren`t working on my last service, so Ł50+ labour charge later and a few corroded pins replaced all was well. But just the other day I noticed they weren`t working again. TOday I`ve had a play, and with the drivers door open, the mirrors on both sides of the car work fine! From the drivers side foor I pulled the rubber cover off of the harness where the pins go in and with the door open if I move the entire harness(it only moves about a little bit) I can hear a relay clicking. I don`t know if it`s an individual wire itself or the white harness itself is causing it (likely). Does the harness itself come out witthout removing the pins? Or is this little white harness just wired into position and not removable?

The electric mirrors on my E30 M3 won't work at all - bl*st them! .......And I can't the bl**dy connector apart in the door panel at all - at all !!!!!!!! (b*gg*r!) 
Just as a matter of interest is the power to them still fuse 17, as on a standard E30 ?

no simon, the fuse for the power mirrors is location 19 and should be 15amps.
Probably sounds like a dodgy wire in the loom that goes from the body to the door, Darren.

Simon, the connector can be found behind the little triangle plate at the very front of the door. Mine has the tweeter speakers there so yours may have as well. It is on the same level as the bottom of the window but you can't get at it by removing the door card. I know because I wasted a load of time when my passenger mirror would only go up or down despite my pressing left or right. I finally found it and pushed it solidly home and all have been fine since.
Oh, the triangle or speaker piece is held on with a simple little metal clip that has an annoying habit of breaking  so take care.

Almost definitely the connector at the base of the door, it is a bit of a pain to get it apart but I can almost guarantee that's the problem. I've got a similar thing with the central locking as soon as I put the rubber cover back over the plug it stops working, must be pulling the contacts apart somewhere.

It could also be linked to a fuse issue... If the fuse ever pops for the windows, they should still work with the door open.. weird I know, but it is as if there is a secondary power supply that kicks in when the door is open.

If its any help to any one I had a very strange problem on my E30, there is a button which I have not figured out what it's function is for, but when you press it the windows stop working. After a few day's of first pressing "that" button my windows stopped working full stop, so I pressed "that" button on and off to see if it made a difference, it didn't. Any way after a while (few days) I figured out "that" button was not making contact correctly, so I fixed it, since then no window problems.

and in front of the passenger window switch?
That is the Automatic circuit breaker. You can press it to deactivate the electric windows to prevent children that you have left in the car (??) from operating the windows and perhap injuring themselves.
If there is a fault it will also trigger.
