Sod that! Also on e-Bay, and available to you even though they're in Germany, is this magnificent pair of brand new, unpainted E24 wing panels

...currently for a fraction of the price of a new single panel...

Why buy secondhand when you can have new?

how are the wings attached, are they bolted or welded?

First, get your panels prepped and then sprayed.

They are bolted first. The attachment/mounting points are pretty much self-explanatory.

The slightly dodgy bit is at the top front "tip", which has to be welded to the nose cone panel section...

I'm told that the later 6 wings ('87 on) don't rust as badly as earlier ones as BMW removed some of the mud traps.

Mine had the section behind the indicator above the bumper cut out & new metal let in on both sides. They removed the mud trap behind at the same time. The area you have trouble with also had attention. Early ones would rust along the bonnet edge & down the door edge too.

If it's only part of the wing get it repaired.

Don't know whereabouts you are but mine were done by the bodyshop used by Horsetans favourite garage Munich Legends in W. Sussex.

Mine is currently having in having both inner wings sorted (i'd drop photos if I could work out how to get them onto the site!). Although the outers look fine - beware of what you'll find underneath when you get them off!

You need to talk to "poor Ross" Harris - he solved the problem by throwing money at it!

Where did you host your photo? Some sites only allow viewing by those registered with them, and not the general public.

Wanadoo is probably better for general public viewing.

I put the photo on Wanadoo - selected public access, put it into this forums 'post Reply' box (where it was visible), then posted it - then it disappeared again!

Fangled technology - it'll never catch on.

Ah... I see where you went wrong. You quoted the time details after the ".jpg" file link. I think that this:

is what you were trying to show us.....

Wow, even I don't have that kind of rust on my inner wings....

yeah - pretty horrible - but this time next week they'll be better - and i'll be poorer!

This was just intended as a warning not to get too carried away with outer wing problems - but to check what's underneath first. My outers look perfect - not a mark on them - underneath though...........

here's another shocker!

Horsetan - thanks for sorting my schoolboy error on the photo posting - not that difficult after all!!

By the way - this shows where the troublesome headlamp wipe/wash relay sits - debated in an earlier thread.
