I have just been offered a brand new OE chrome centre bumper for my M6 by a well known BMW parts specialist. Mine is the original and the chrome is lifting near to where it joins the end piece.

Does anyone know how easy (or otherwise) it will be to replace it?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Nick

If it's just the chrome section, you will need to remove the whole bumper and dismantle it. The metal parts are bolted to the plastic airdam by a lot of captive bolts, which are fixed to the plastic. They tend to either shear, or break out of the plastic. Repairing is a pain... Check the condition of the fixings before you start to take it apart.

I'm just replacing all the crome on my bumper, what a nightmare!. When you have removed the bumper you will probably find that inside is very rusty and all the bolts are rusted. I have had to cut, drill and bash nearly all the bolts. While i have got my bumper in bits I have wire brushed it down and treated all the rust with a rust killer, I have also painted the inside of the bumper with anti rust paint. You may find you have to replace both crome bumper ends and you will probably find it difficult to remove them. I'm also going to get my spoiler resprayed while its off the car. The final thing I also found is that the plastic brakects for the fog lamps was cracked as well but fortunately I had spare fog lamps.

In all you will probably find more work than you think so take your time and make sure you do it right.

Cheers

Dave
