Hi

No one appears to reply to my topics, not sure why this is.

Yet another electrical niggle this week, the fuel filler flap lock has ceased working.

I took the unit out near the battery and it works perfectly, as soon as its screwed back in place it ceased operation?

Can these be taken aparts to look at or am I best buying new?

I hope I get my first ever reply on here...

Just for you I am replying. I think 7 owners are a bit rarer on here so I can't see a 7 topic catching fire, but I may be wrong!

I don't have a 7, post up the part number and we should be able to get a price for you for a new one. then you can decide whether its worth taking apart.....

I think its just a solenoid and it may be a weak coil or it could be sticking when the case has stress on it when fitted. that sounds about right.

-or it could be a fatigued wire; if the wire was not correctly supported it could have vibrated and broken inside, temporarily making contact when the wires are in a different place. You might be able to diagnose this with a multimeter and a bit of wire wobbling.

-cheers

Thanks for getting back to me!

I think I'll remove it and get the part number, it looked like a sealed unit and I don't think its worth trying to take apart.

My car is a 1999 E38.

Cheers

Simon
