Vanos replacement 525 sport

   Hi, my mum has been told by our local garage that there is a telltale sound coming from her engine meaning the Vanos unit is on its way out.  I have niticed that my 1992 non-vanos 525I Sport feels livlier especially around the 3000 rpm mark.  I had read that hers should feel a little more powerful.  Anyway the garrage has suggested she get rid of the car as the work to fix it will cost several hundred quid.  We would like to keep the car as it is a real beauty.

The garrage says the car has had a hard life from its previous owners.  There is no evidence of any crash damage, the engine is quiet and the leather/cloth interior is beautiful.
Any views or advice on cost of repairs greatly received.

	very nice looking car i would take it to a other garage for second view and if so get it put right after all what are you going to replace it with ,costing a few hundred quid
