 Topic: E30 exhausts

I'm looking to replace the exhaust on my E30 318iS with a stainless steel system. As I know very little about exhausts, I would be grateful for any recommendations and some explaination of the terminology (e.g. do I need to buy a "half system"?). I'm willing to spend up to £400, and am after something fairly normal looking, preferably with just a single tailpipe. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

i have a 320ise coupe. i got an aftermarket stainless steel system from Powerflow exhausts for £325. i went to local car accesories store.
i have a full system and recommend them i have notice the difference!!
powerflow also have a website im not sure of the address but you should find it on a search engine.

Am I correct in assuming that with a single tailpipe system I shouldn't have to alter the rear valance?

Yes aslong as you get one that is not to large in diameter. from memory i think a 3.5" is the largest that will fit in without knocking, or just cut the valance slightly and fit a twin pipe desgin looks much more attractive.

Sebring and Supersprint also make good systems that are not ricey.

Depends on what you need. Since the car is >12 years old know, a full system might be the way to go.

On a slight tangent to the original query, how do you identify if an E30 exhaust is a 2 or 3 piece item? I know it sounds a daft question but I'll be after a Scorpion back box soon and want to make sure I get the right one!!

Have a look underneath, a three piece system has down pipes, a centre section and a back box, normally on pre 89 models the later ones have to two piece.

Thanks for the advice all! After looking at various prices, I rang my local Powerflow dealer yesterday and am going to book the "iS" in for one of their custom fit full systems. For the tailpipe design I'm after (single inward curled) I was quoted a maximum of £350 (including labour, although this doesn't include the VAT).
By the way, "b318isp" I'm guessing you're Brendan Purcell? If so, your "318iS" website is a great resource - keep up the good work!
