A friend of mine (honestly) was caught by a camera in one of those mobile vans a few weeks ago.

Are there any ways out of the fine??

I was thinking about calibration of the equipment etc.

Any advice gratefully received.

Cheers,

Carl.

Not likely, the cameras are usually checked daily and are seen to be one the most accurate methods around. Your 'friend' will probably just need to take it on the chin (and the wallet). ouch!

Alive.........but for how long?

He can ask to see the details of the calibration check for the day in question. Supposedly if it hasn't been checked that day then the speeding ticket isn't valid, although it's not something I would put to the test. My advice would be to take Kenny's advice! Big Smile

I was away over the weekend and on my return home I passed one of our gatso cameras. Not needing to slow down (because on most of the 100 mile trip cars in front felt the need to keep their cars in 2nd gear) I passed the camera and noticed whilst doing so that some considerate person had barbecued it! Made the terrible journey worthwhile!

On another note, a local paper is reporting that a national route that passes close to both me incorrectly has 50mph signs on a stretch of it. The council say it is a mistake and should be 40mph whilst the polis are rigourously enforcing the 40mph limit. Typical! Also the only fatality on this stretch that I know of was caused mysteriously by a polis car and was also kept well hidden from the media!

We have 6 gatso thingies here, only one camera and the rota for it is in the local paper.

We have a brilliant road here that is used for Top Gear etc for testing...10 miles twists, turns, straights, bumps..ending in a road thats 15ft from a 300ft cliff edge...

I can easily drive it at over 80mph...but if you don't kno it well, it can and will kill you.  Cameras aren't there cos the fuzzies seem to think the road is dangerous enough to put speeders off.

Near Aberdeen on the dual carriageway (called "tyre bagger??!?" someone correct me!) theres a Gatso that got barbecued, not a peep out of the detector unsurprisingly!   okay, thats one that shouldn't really have got cooked cos thats a dodgy junction anyway, a good place to slow folk down  (yeah yeah, shoot me down in flames (a bit like the camera was! )

but more interestingly, after the F&M show today in aberdeen, on a looong very undangerous straight (not far after Insch if your'e local) guess whats there?  yep, a talivan!  i noticed they ignored the crash that happened not far beyond, lots of hazard lights, no injuries - where were the police?  out topping up their coffers!

Barbecued gatso cameras, what ever next LOL !!

On Friday I was on a 3 lane motorway (M180) which was nearly empty and I noticed a marked police car on the bridge. At the time I was only doing 70 mph with the cruise control set.

So what did the cop car do chase down the slip road and follow me for 3 miles.

Great use of resource!!

Just covered 2400 km in France, belgium , Germany on round trip to Nurburgring. Not one Gatso or Police car seen in 6 days.motorists driving at good pace, traffic flowing no probs. BIG brother Not watching them .

All this ends the moment you return and get out of the Dockyard, gatso No 1.The world of UK CameraLand begins, and all for our benifit.

If you wish to "Take it on the chin" thats your choice. Not Me!!!!!

Some fuzziewuzzie pilots require practice...maybe this was one such example of 'hell, I'm bored sat here on this bridge, lets chase the first thing we see and get a bit of Top Gun practice'

isn't there something about a loop hole where you can send the notice back unsigned and it gets you out of it?  as by signing it you are incriminating yourself, which is now against european law.

wouldn't fancy trying it though.

Luckily not too many cameras round my way, although I have just come back from London and there are loads of them. Mind it's not like you can ever get up enough speed to get a ticket anyway since the traffic is so heavy.
