Hi, new to BMW's, just got 1985 E28 with 2.7 engine. Details were posted on here by Nigel. Can anyone help with a few teething probs please. First, was told from start speedo sluggish over 70mph and odometer not working. Voltage regulator somewhere?Have noticed heater very hot but temperature guage only going to about 1/3. Rev counter has mpg meter at bottom. Also told oil service lights wouldn't reset at garage with tool available. Anyone know reasons for any of this? Fair DiYer but limited standing up time now (disabled) and no knowledge of BM's and loads to do. Need to clean alloys but confused by different types. Are standard fit laquered/polished/ something else - what can safely be used to clean?Using autoglym on bodywork(silver) though roof and boot badly scratched - looks like brillo pad used! Happy to put car in as good condition and as original as possible, any helpful hints much appreciated

Hello Ian, nice to see you posting, I'm back from Mexico now. I dont know the going price for a head for yours, or even if there was an issue with them, ( unlike the E34, which definately had a problem). There are some E28 fans on here, so hopefully you will get some advice soon. |

Sounds like you have the SI battery problem, look at This link for info on replacing the batteries. As for the paintwork how bad is the scratching ? Meguiars sell a swirl/scratch remover which is very effective at removing light surface scratching.
