    Posted: 19-August-2004 at 08:22

Hi everybody

I've just bought my first Beamer she is an 98 S 523i SE with Steptronic auto and leather with a genuine 46k miles.  I p/x my former beloved a Vx Senator 3.0i 24 v 200+ bhp monster for this new lovely.  Needed something on a par with the Sennie for a replacement.  Didn't want one of those transverse mounted front drive shopping carts so it had to be a Beamer as a replacement!

I'm new to this forum having been a regular on a Senator forum.

I bought her from an independant dealer in Glasgow who bought her from a local BMW dealer and she has FBMWSH and every single receipt from new.

The only thing I don't have is the radio code.  The space for it in the radio handbook is blank.  There are no other cards or anything to say what the code is.

Can anyone tell me how I can go about getting the code for the radio, other than writing to the previous owner?

Will a BMW garage be able to help and will they charge like a wounded bull for the privilege?

Andrew

Hi, if you have the std radio from new, on the E39 it does not have a radio code, as the unit wont work in any other car anyway.

Dan

Standard is still fitted. Didn't know that, Cheers!

What I'm worried about is that when I disconnect the battery from the car the radio won't work when the battery is reconnected.  Doing this on my previous cars made the radio do nowt except demand its code is punched into it before it will work.

You see the person who had the car before me decided to fit a Renault battery to it.  Yes a sodding Renault battery.  I even have the receipt for it!  I want to get shot of that dodgy french piece of ^%£ and get the proper Beamer Battery.  Tis the right size, 70 amp hours though.

I've taken my radio out three times this week and disconnected it from the battery (I've installed a bluetooth car kit) and the radio has worked fine every time afterwards
