Does my car have a timing belt or chain? Its just that I am considering buying a warranty and one of the stipulations is that the timing equipment is changed in accordance with manufacturers recommendations. I have a 1997 520ISE Auto by the way.

Thanks Guys

Philip

Should last 300K-400K Miles on an M50/M52 as they use a double chain, not sure about the M30 which uses a single chain ?

300k - 400k miles on an M52 engine!! Thats great!!

I have just swapped my 24 v 3.0i Senator  for my E39 523i SE cos the chains would have gone soon (Sennie chains go at 150k miles) and you are looking at a grand to change them and get a new CHG fitted.  Bad news when the car is worth less that 500 notes before AND after having that work done to it.

I have never heard about Beamer chains going but Vx chains would go anywhere between 100 and 150 k miles.

Glad I got a Beamer then!
