Will it take anything bigger than a standard 15" ie a 17"x8" with a
235/40? thought I'd ask before I empty out the boot and give it a
go.

So long as the overall size is no bigger than a 15" with tyre on it should fit fine the depth i would say goes to about 9" before you then get the wheel sitting proud and you may have to take the wheel cover off the underside of the carpet to keep it looking flat.

Thanks everyone! Now I'll empty the boot and put a more appropriate wheel there.

A useful tip is to put a piece of plastic/rubber hose over the stud that comes out of the centre of the well.

It's very easy to scratch the inside of the wheel on it when you're struggling against the wind and the carpet etc. so this saves your bacon (guess who speaks from past experience ?)

Just slip it off after you've installed or removed the wheel and leave with your other tools.
