Hi All,

I'm a huge BMW 6-series enthousiast from Holland, owning one of the
earliest 6-ers, a 630CS (Carburetted model) built on June 30th 1976, #
453 off the Karmann production line.

In the June 2001 issue of BMW Car which I recently came across, I
discovered a Buying advise for the M635CSi.

In that article a Mr. David Connell of the BMW M-Power Club UK was
mentioned owning a very rare M635CSi type, the Motorsport edition.
It has slightly more horsepower (292 i.s.o 286), and different bodykit
(spoilers?), and even leather in the boot! (I wonder where that is
fitted then..)
It was said only 12 of these cars were ever made. Was this a one-off
UK special? I never came across one anywhere else in Europe.
Were they built by BMW, or later modified through UK dealerships?
What was done with the engine to increase the BHP from 286 to 292?
It seems so little extra to do a lot of work for on the engine.

I know of the Motorsport Edition of the normal 635CSi in the UK sold
from 1988 onwards, but this is a M6 Motorsport Edition, which seems to be something else.

It is also not to be confused with the Highline option which was
also possible on the M6 cars.

I'm researching everything there is to know about BMW 6-series cars,
and although I already have a huge archive, I'm missing details about this special M6.

I was just wondering if anybody in the UK knows more about this very
special M6 type, or perhaps owns one, and can tell me more about the
specific details.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Kind Coupé Regards from Holland,

Basically, yes, it did appear to be UK only. Of the original 12 sold here, only 4 or 5 are still here...

In fact, the David R. Cornell you mention has tweaked his even further, so it's strictly no longer original.

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.
Do you perhaps have any more specific details regarding the spec. of these cars?
Do you perhaps know how i could get in touch with Mr David Connell?
(e-mail, website ?)

Good to hear at least a couple of these cars are still there!

Any further info is highly appreciated!

Kind Coupé Regards,

Mr. Cornell was a member of the former BMW Drivers Club UK, and is a very private individual.

He might be a member of the BMW Car Club GB. You will need to contact the Membership Secretary.

I have been informed that he is not a member of the BMW Car Club due to a falling out a number of years ago. That said they may still have his details as he used to look after the M power section, again so i am told.

...and he graced us with his presence (and his car) at Sharkfest.

You may have spotted "606 DRC".

Hi all,

Thanks for all the info sofar.
I'll try to get a copy of the mentioned magazine in one of the better Dutch newsstands.

Perhaps the article will reveal all there is to know about this special limited series of UK M6 cars.

Kind Coupé regards from Holland,
Ronald.
