I was at the launch of the 1 series in the Radisson Hotel.Very impressive car in the flesh.I'd advise everyone to go to the dealer launches on Saturday and take it out. After seeing it and sittin in it I cant wait to get a spin.
Anyway,check it out:

Squint a bit and imagine a lower 2dr coupe with flared arches, an M badge, and 250bhp. Sweet.

Is that what they spent the last week putting up those huge tents? Did they put on a good spread ?!!
As with the X3 it looks a little anorexic and could do with putting on a bit of weight round the wheel arches as T.J. points out. There is certainly potential there to make it look the part...

Yeah it was a good spread.Free booze and Thai food. Can't go wrong there. They had a chill out lounge in the bigger tent where you could stay for the rest of the night drinkin for free surrounded by various differently set up 1 series.

I got it from a friend who registered their interest on bmw.ie ages ago.Numbers were limited so it was first come first served.
You'd think the club would get an invite wouldn't you????

I had been thinking that. I also notice Joe Duffy's opened their new shop last thursday (according to the Oirish Times) and had a big do but our invites got lost in the post.

Yep.Considering we are out there promoting them, a few invites wouldn't go astray.Same story at Mondello for the Touring Cars.
Maybe that should be communicated to them.

Definetely looks better in the flesh than any photos i've seen up to now. I think there will be a new and rapidly growing section added to the car club very soon!!
Think the 1 is how the Z3 should have looked, cant wait for the arrival of the 3 door model.....bread van mkII!

There are presently 2 cars parked almost side by side outside the main doors of my office. One is a 04 Bentley GT Coupe and the other a sparkling new black 1 series with nice rims.
You could probably have c. seven of the 1 series' for the price of the Bentley yet it is the baby BM that is getting all the looks and people are walking over to take a look at, bypassing the Bentley without even batting an eyelid!
Admittedly the GT is far from reality for the masses but this shows the interest the 1 has generated. I wonder if it is translating into sales?

Spotted one at the pumps in Keogh's in Limerick when I called in there about 10 days ago. Looked smarter in the flesh than in the pictures. Bearing in mind that there are loads of MINI's just hitting the 3 year mark, its a good time to be launching the next "aspirational" model.

Saw a black one at Barry Motors during the week. Even though it was a basic 116i with steel wheels, it looked quite smart. I was pleasantly suprised.
