I dissagree with your opinions of the ABD, I'm a member of it, and so are a lot of IAM people.
The ABD doesnt want speed cameras banned, it wants them used correctly.
Its the same as BMW drivers having a bad image, the ABD seems to have one too, which stems from its early days.
They are about the only group who are taking on these so called safety idiots.

Doesn't matter if they are a good organisation. From a club PR point of view they are not the best organisation to support in my opinion as it would be too easy for the media or anyone else to twist it into a boy racer event type thing.

BTW, as I have discussed with you N. I'll do whatever I can this side of the water!

Assuming it will follow the coastline, then it would! However, I think the coastal scenery from Galway Northwards (all the way round to Belfast) is much nicer!

What a great idea
Count me in for a bit of driving, in central region so I'll fit in where ever needed.
What about getting BMW to supply some sort of "Baton" that could be auctioned off at the end party, that way we could raise more for charity.
Just another thought what about each region nominating a charity in their region and getting local TV to cover each leg, as well as national TV.

The entire coastline of the UK and all of Ireland, North and South, is
to be included in this...so anyone based near or in NI and those with
the adventurous spirit (Killian) can have a crack at NI too.
Anyone wanting to include the Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Hebrides,
Orkneys, Shetlands, Channel Islands etc..maybe Niggles could do a
feasibility thing on including the offshore islands, please

I'd want to stop off in Ennis and say a lengthy "howya" to John and Marie Burke at Clare Equestrian....

Not sure about the bakery prices connection but those people would be along or near the route! Ivan is feeling home-from-home sick!

Whilst it is for BMWCC to decide what they want to do on their run and I can fully see the bad PR points about having an anti speed camera run - I believe as a general point it is vital that car clubs support the ABD. As Nigel say's, we are a group of responsible motorists and the *only* group standing up against the barrage of anti car legislation coming our way. True - the media gave the ABD a hard time to start with but that is generally in the past - now, with the exception of a few extreme anti car journalists, the ABD is the first port of call for many who want to find out what is really happening.
Car clubs have nothing to fear from bad publicity here. The ABD is a responsible organisation run mainly by advanced drivers dealing only with publicising the real truth about road safety and environmental issues - whilst the government cast aspersions and laughably attempt to paint us with an 'anti safety' image they have not yet managed to seriously challenge anything the ABD says! Many of the things they used to criticise us for are now government policy, in particular the publicising of speed camera sites which we no longer do as the government quangos (camera partnerships) are doing it instead!
Car clubs can affiliate to the ABD and I suggest it's vital that they do. We are having success but we need more support from the generally apathetic public. If we hadn't been active in the last few years I'm convinced we would have 60 limits on motorways, 50 on other roads by now together with ridiculously high VED on any cars over two litres and probably imminent GPS speed limiters. To dispel a few myths: We are not anti properly used cameras (although they are few and far between) nor are we anti speed limits, we have called for timed limits outside schools and our local representatives will often support lowered limits when they are appropriate.

Count me in from South East. I know all coast intimately from Dartford Bridge to Southampton. Brilliant idea. This is sort of thing I hoped Club would be involved in.
Input, Charities should perhaps be ones that supports Road Safety or road accident victims, (Stoke Mandeville etc) with a message that supports safe driving generally.
I'm no spring chicken, when my neighbour saw I now had a 540 1st comment "another BMW road hoodlum" 2nd comment "you should be setting an example, not tear assing around in a boy racers car". Completly misses the point that his Mondeo drives like a stuck pig and corners better than his because its designed to!!!!!!! Actually he's just jealous I've 2 Beemers sitting on the drive and he don't.
Input, why start in London? Pig to get in or out. What we need is somewhere like Brighton (has marina which is regularly closed for car shows and rallies). Southsea (has a big area off of promenade used for war vehicle rallies). If my memmory serves me right Skegness has a large arena type area close to coast road. Views and other ideas?
If you need help with logistics for South East I'll sign up.

Quite right, but wouldn't a central location be more just?
This would involve the central region more as well, and would be easier to get to if anyone wanted to be at the start, finish? (ideas, Brum, Wolvo, Coventry (propper centre of england if memory is correct)
