For too long the police commissioners have been detached from their officers, hence the huge problem recently exposed over the racial difficulties in certain constabularies. The government just want results and targets and they really don't mind how they are sought. Until those at the top in the police really start getting to grips with their officers then the problem of rogue officers will increase.

Better training and control costs money, government are squeezing the budget, lack of training and control causes problems at ground level...

Catch 22.

oh yeah, been through the "good cop, bad cop" routine too...

years ago when i was travelling down south on holiday late at night about 12:30, no other traffic about at all... 110 on the A9 dual carriageway.... suddenly lights appeared way behind me right up on a hill... slowed down to 60, not braking, call it a hunch...

eventually the car came up behind me and overtook... nice stripey police car, yep... so nervous i forgot to dip my headlights (whoops), he slowed... 50....40...30.. whats this guys ****ing problem??!? next thing...police stop sign, blue lights...

pulled in behind, oh shoot, main beam still on <click> off

driver gets out.. just as spokey said, really aggressive "could do you for dangerous driving blah blah blah"

other young copper passenger was nice as ninepence, where you going, long journey ahead, nice part of the country yaddayaddayadaa

meanwhile the nasty one was giving it the full eyeball round the car, he took a particular interest in the numberplates, standard old font, 3d honeycomb with little ford logos in the background (when that stuff was legal), and i saw his face drop when he saw the bso kitemark (? - the sign that says theyre road legal)

you could tell he was fizzing... most likely because he didnt manage to get a fix on my speed before i slowed down

they both roared off, and reversed up into a side turning up ahead, waiting for their next "punter"

didnt have long to wait, there was a nissan 300zx giving it beans coming the other way about 5 minutes later, i hope he saw my headlight flashes

Great example of good cop/bad tempered cop....

Doing rail replacement coach work into London in 93. Using a Shearings coach. Trains and tubes were on strike and about 80 coaches had been hired in to get the workers into central London.

The pick up point at the end of the day was Smithfield Market. All the coaches had photocopied permits to park at the market.

Up comes jobsworth City of London copper.

Walks around the coaches mumbling into talking brooch. Next thing we know a couple of dozen wasps arrive, books, tickets and pens at the ready.

We all took exception to this and the wasps started writing tickets and sticking them to the windscreens of all the coaches. We called the co-ordinator who duly arrived about 10 mins later.

All the drivers then took a vote that if the jobsworth and his wasps didn't go away we would all drive nose to tail around central London.

Next thing another copper arrived in Range Rover. Top brass one. He called jobsworth over and promptly gave him a right dressing down infront of everyone.

Both he and his wasps were despatched promptly, we all got apologised to profusely and top brass left.

Jobsworth would have been linched, me thinx had top brass not arrived when he did.
