Reading in the cars manual it gives the impression to ME, that all 320's and 325's come with ABS, the reason i ask is because my ABS light does not light up when i turn on the ignition, mine is a 1992 320i SE and to be honest i think it was a big mistake by BMW not to supply to the car with ABS as standard (if thats the case)

Apparently the first ones didn't come with ABS.  The H platers that is.  ABS came as standard approx 1 year into production of the E36.  So, what reg is your car is the next question... cos if at is J onwards, then yes, it is standard; but previously, I think it was an option or not even an option...

Perhaps you've missed out on ABS as well;  I did say it was the earlier ones...  To be certain, just ring up a beemer dealer, give them your car reg no. and get them to confirm???

But it sounds to me you've got a ABS-less model...

Just drive it down a quiet road and jump on the brakes (checking it's clear behind first of course). Then you'll find out pretty quickly whether you've got ABS or not. I was under the impression that 325iSE models came with ABS as standard, as from about '88.

Not according to Parkers Car Price Guide's tech info at the start of the E36 bit - that's where I found out about the ABS-less E36 320 6 potter for the start of production.

ABS has saved my no claims a few times over, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

It's more likely to kick in if you break heavily on a damp road, but it doesn't have to be damp.  Get some clear road and slam on hard at 40ish (make sure there's nothing behind you!).  You'll know for certain if it kicks in.  Tip - if it does kick in, don't release the brake pedal; hold it down until the car has stopped.
