what a start to the new year, first accident in 9 years cos somebody put a rover 45 in the way while i wasn't looking  only a couple of scratches, new bumper and light, lucky it was the missus car and not the zed, and unlucky cos ive wiped her ncb. then i get back and find a dint on the boot lid where it looks like some little fookers either sat or stood on the zed while we've been away.

dent removal companies anyone highland, aberdeenshire area

happy new year

si

just been looking for security webcams to link up with pc. anyone looked into this or know of any software available, or even if it's legal to record outside your house

a lot of normal webcams have motion detection software in their repertoire, i know logitech ones definately do

if youre looking for something a bit more professional, you can get standalone cctv systems that run on removable hard drive caddys, ill get a phone number of a local company that does them if youre interested?

Yip it is legal as long as you put a small sign on wall at end of house saying

CCTV is being used in this area (or something like being used for crime provention and the protection of properties)

I have checked this with poilce already as we have always got problems and its ok

As long as it aint pointing at a school or someones windows

Your best purchase would be from makro

You get a good selection of black and white or colour systems with sound for good prices

Hope this helps

thanks for the offer stephen, but the webcam kills two birds with one stone. how good are the logitech webcams ? is there anything to look for that will give a good indication of how good the image is?

i've heard of webcam monitoring software(motion detection etc) which can be purchesed but do all webcams come with this software anyway.

nightvision or infrared any good?, or will black and white be just as good

any info would be appreciated, cheers si

I had a really cheap logitech quickcam express before, and it was passable quality, my current logitech quickcam pro 3000 (discontinued model, now replaced by the 4000 http://www.logitech.co.uk/index.cfm/products/details/GB/EN,C RID=2204,CONTENTID=7313) gave this kind of quality (before the lens cracked )

infra-red or green would be great at night but i dont know if youd get that on a webcam?

logitechs come with their own software called ImageStudio ( http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm?page=downloads/software&am p;CRID=1794&contentid=5383&countryid=18&language id=1)

heres a screenshot of the software so you can see the motion detection bit:

with regard to choosing a camera, the quidelines should be resolution (cheap cams are usually 388x255 pixels, the logitech quickcam pro is 640x480) and the quality of the CCD light sensor - a cheaper sensor means more light required on the subject you are filming

heres a good site that compares a few:
