The number on plate is WBAEC7208C8175005.  the only information the dealer can give me is  MODEL, BUILD DATE, REG DATE, COLOUR, UPHOLSTERY, & AIR CON. neither the dealer or BMW can give me the original engine number (I would like to see if I still have the original). I also believe the car has been converted to manual due to a second linkage cable being present on the accelerator bracket, and the only thing that comes to mind is a kickdown cable.

Here's what I got:-

Chassis number 8175005
Vehicle code 5372
Series E24
Model 635CSi
Body type coupe
Catalog model ECE
Production date 1982 / 05
Engine M30
Transmission Manual
Steering Right
Catalyzer NONE

Appears to have been built as a 635 manual.  I think that this may be the 5th RHD manual 635 built, but that would definitely appear to be a 628 front valance.  Interesting. I think it'll be one of the first E28 based cars.

The bracket with the extra cable mount could have been for cruise control.

I am in Hendon (other end of the A406 North Circular Road), and might be able to spare some time on a Saturday afternoon... I spent last year working in the East Ham area!

I wouldn't expect BMW to be much help unless you can provide the last 7 digits of the VIN no.

Don't know anyone in Ilford, but could ask my private mechanic in East Acton / Park Royal whether he's willing to fit you in?

I still can't believe you bought that thing.... Still, at least it's easily identifiable if it gets nicked

Interestingly, according to the V5 for my 1983 car, the engine number is the same as the VIN no., i.e. 8185515.

Might this be the same for you?

I am free most Saturday's, drop me a line at bmturner@btinternet.com and we can arrange something.
The only 17 digit number I can fin is WBAEC7208C8175005, the last 7 digits are the chassis number. Until I get the V5 through I cannot check if the engine number's are the same. As for the colour... just call me banana man, as soon as I save the money, the original colour will reappear (Baltic blue). The over sized wheels are going also.

You'll also need a proper 635CSi front spoiler, UNLESS you fancy adding a genuine Alpina front airdam, in which case you'll need to keep the 628 valence that you currently have.

The oversized wheels are very very similar to Rondell Wizard / Breyton Magic design, and may be worth something by themselves. What do you plan to replace them with? Surely not metric TRXs?

anything but metric... the dealer i got the car from says he has a set of alloys that should fit, so i'm going to do a straight swap. as for the spoiler, it depends on price.
