Hi there folks I joined the forum a wee while ago and have spent a lot of time going through the archives etc. I was thinking about coming along to the Perth meet last week, but the weather was too bad. Anyway, I' looking for a little advice:

I "lost" the back end of my 316 compact at christmas and broke the rear trailing arm and dented my alloy. I replaced the arm with a second hand arm. Now I know I need to get a four wheel alignment done after messing about with the suspension, but am going to wait until I replace the trailing arm bushes (the bushes in the new arm are shagged - sod's law eh?).

Problem is that the camber of the wheel is wrong (visibly different to the other side). I want to temporarily adjust the camber so that I dont completely ruin the tyre. I phoned Deutschmarque in edinburgh to get a quote for the future alignment. They told me that they outsource alignment jobs to a company in sighthill (CCLC or something) I explained the situation to the guy at CCLC and he tells me that there is a "concentric bolt" on the hub which will alow me to make an adjustment to the camber myself. Does anyone know if this is easy?

Also the RTAB 's are a nightmare to press in and take out. Does anyone know of an engineering shop who will press out the old bush and press in the new bush for me while I wait (i am going to take the arm off again) either that or does anyone have a picture of the BMW bushing tool, as I am going to try and make my own.

sorry to come on and ask for stuff straight out, but my car is driving like a rubber dingy at the moment and I need to get it sorted.

PS when is the next meet?

Its and excentric bolt. It is a bolt that is welded to a washer but the bolt is not central to the washer. And yes this will ajust the camber.  If i were you i would have the bushes changes which may need to be pressed out and exchange them with polys or the billet ones from ca auto motive as they last a lot longer and are easies changed and then get the geometry set up by a pro cos even if it is a little out you will get uneven wear.

Cheers Chris, I must have misheard the guy.

I just want to make a temporary adjustment to ease the problem until I can get the bushes done, then I am going to take it to the guy that Deutschmarque use for their alignments (he quoted me £58.95 for a full 4 wheel alignment) I am assuming "knows his onions" as Deutschmarque are pretty reputable (anyone had any experience??)Going to get the bushes done at the end of the month, some bloke called "SANTA" seems to have cleaned my bank out this month. Grrrr

I am planning to take the arm off again and take it to an engineering shop to press out the old bushes and press in the new ones.

A couple of questions:

Would stiffer bushes be advisable? the car is only a 1.6 engine so cant really be thrown around at high speeds but I suppose I do have 17" wheels with 225 tyres.

Will I have to Jack the car up and down to check each adjustment I make?

Is it likely that the bolt will be rusted or might shear off as bleed nipples do?

Any idea of price for uprated ones? eurocarparts are quoting £10+VAT for the standard ones.

Pete I'm too much of a hands on kind of guy to let a garage do the job. I am assuming you mean 1400 hours, or 2pm. I take it you wouldn't be too embarassed by a wee 1.6 engined car coming along??
