thanx to everyone for the help on my previous thread. i have a good idea of what i'm going to do to help the car run better now. however i was just on the motorway stuck in traffic for 45 mins and there was a bit of steam and the temp gauge went to 3/4 of the way. it didnt hit the red but i am concerned. any ideas to help/ someone said put your heater on full. someone else mentioned changing from viscous to electric fan. havent got a clue. any help is some help. also cost and where to shop for it, if i need to buy something.

finally i want to put my stereo in but there is no connection like there was in my old car, jus a bunch of wires. look very original. anyone know the original wiring colours and what they are? thanks again. chris.

Steam means that there's coolant getting past the pressure cap or some other leak.

If the pressure cap is old and tired this will happen even when everything else is fine.

Most garages will have a pump that pressurises the system and higlights cold leaks.

If the engine is overheating, there are several potential causes:

- blocked or partially blocked radiator

- Collapsed coolant hoses. Look ok but internal failure.

- lean running, perhaps due to air leak

- failed thermostat

Cheers, Neil

if you need another radiator, i have one with no leaks or cracks. It came off a car i broke for the kit. Drove the car hard the day i bought it for a good 600miles (newcastle to swindon and then swindon to west wales) and it didnt lose a sinle mililiter of coolant at all. If its any good to you, send me an email or pm or msn me or whatever suits you.

Hope its something simple like a loose hose or something though.

Long live the metal-bumper massiv!

if i remember correctly the speaker wires were tied together, green i think, and obviously some had black on them, jus had to try them and swap around for correct balance and fad. erm there were two reds (one permanent one ignition, brown for earth). something like that. well its works. and god do i love my car. ok its my first bmw. e30. 316i. but it just makes you want more. 325 next maybe. hmmmm let me think.......

i think the white wire was the aerial motor connection, (makes it go up/down), i think. it usually goes to the blue or blue and white striped wire from youre head unit but check it with the instrcution manual first...

once again don't blame me if it all goes up in smoke.
