Well I had a 1.6L Sierra. E912JBD and it was a heap of ****. Still it introduced me to RWD. I fitted an kent fast road cam which gave me 67bhp at the wheels!! Although fuel consumption dropped to below 25mpg and it used almost as much oil. Horrible nasty car. biggrin1

Peter,

Your post has just reminded me of when my ex-wife's relative died and left an E plated Sierra 2.0 GLS Saloon.

It was 6 years old and had done, wait for this, 700 miles.

He'd bought it, become almost housebound shortly after, and just used to pop out to the garage to clean it every week (every week, despite the fact it never went anywhere).  A very sad affair actually because he'd sit in it, on the drive with the engine running, looking ever so down about it.  Even the washing was a big effort for him because of his health - but he still did it week in and week out (but he'd had his driving licence taken off him on medical rounds by now too).

He continued insuring it for all those years on a TPF&T basis because he refused to part with it.  It had a special policy if I recall because of the fact he didn't have a licence.  It had to be taken to the petrol station twice in the 6 years - because of the fuel it used each time he started it up when just sitting in it!

Anyway - we had the task of selling it.  It's amazing just how hard that car was to sell.  A 6 year old car with less than 1,000m on it?  No-one wants to know!

It went eventually and I can't recall how much for.  But I do remember the guy who bought it saying he worked on a building site so it was going to get very dirty every day....I so much wanted to say "Right, you're not having it!".

It seemed very quiet from what I remember, and a very soggy ride too.

Whitey,

Because now they are rare as rocking horse poo and worth rather a lot of money as I recall. It had to go as it needed another gearbox and the one put in was a complete dog!! They came off a mk3 cortina 2000E and they were really hard to find!

Saab 900 2.0i

Wont list every (26 IIRC) car I have ever owned but the last three before my lovely beemer:

MCC Smart passion (cheap runabout during divorce)
Vauxhall VX220 Lightning 2.2 (post divorce "i'm free" car")
Honda Civic Type R  (wanted something a little more practical after the VX)

I miss the VX but I dont miss the lack of a heater or getting in and out of it.

Yes, there was one at last year's Retro Cars show held last July at Santa Pod.

I remember the Supermirafiori TV advert, because the car was put in a lion's cage.....

Philip

#6 The Saab was a car I'd always promised myself (shouldn't that have been a Capri?) but was the biggest dissapointment I've owned. It was an 8v and they suffered from massive turbo lag. You'd pull out thinking you've plenty of room but it would go like a 1600 OHV Cortina......Until it reached 3500rpm when all hell would let loose! When the turbo finally kicked in it was all torque steer and wheelspin. I only had it 8 months then outed it. I would say though the finish was fantastic, in some ways better than, dare I say it, a BMW. The paint finish in the engine bay and door shuts was as good as the exterior.

#11 the sierra ghia. It was a 1989 F and it was in 1993 that I bought it cheap as we'd just bought the house and did not have a pot to **** in. I bought it virtually unseen. I was just told the price the colour and the model all for £2200 which was cheap. When I went to pick it up it was dark so i gave it a quick glance and paid the money. The next morning I soon realised why it was cheap. ALL 4 doors were rotten along the tops and a few were bubbling along the bottoms. It also drove like a jelly on acid! It had no history, had obviously had a haircut BUT it did still have the remainder of the ford 6 year anti corrosion warranty. So I drove it into a dealer and showed them. They had it inspected and then proceeded to replace all 4 doors and repaint both sides completely. £1400 worth of work for nothing. I kept it for about 6 months and outed it for £3450. It goes without saying you can't polish a turd.

Regards

Trevor

My god....if we're now listing everything we've owned you'll need to give me a good few hours to compile the list!

I have a reputation for changing my cars, how shall I put this, ermm frequently.

I'll do my best and gather the list (I am bound to miss something out!).

I thought this was just a "What you owned when aged 20" thread...good to see we're developing them to be life-spanning!

My first car was a 1982 Volvo 340 with a plastic ladder type thing on the back window, I loved it.  Then I upgraded to a 1986 Volvo 360GLEI and stuck in some monroe shocks.  When I was 20 I was driving a 1985 e28 518 90BHP, it had no power steering or alloys or electric windows but it handled great when I stuck a set of Koni's in it and at the time it felt quick to me.  Feel a bit bad now for trashing the lot of them  .

As this thread develops into every car I've ever owned I think we are going to see some amazing lists.

Who will be first to list Ferrari, Lambo or maybe a Trabant!

At the tender age of 20 i had just sold my MKII Escort (1.3 no less...) and bought a E30 323i convertible! Proper Essex lad Loved that car - B486 XKO still doing the rounds apparently! although the last two occasions i've seen it for sale it seems to have less and less mileage on the clock!

That's a sad story. I wish I'd seen it advertised.A few years ago I would have snapped it up.

The next car I got was an H reg 2.0GLS Sapphire. It was nice and quiet inside but the ride was soggy. It was the first car I owned that wasn't a banger and I loved it. H773YFM if I remember correctly. By the time I changed it I had fitted spax suspenion, scorpion exhaust, superchip, Induction kit, janspeed 4-2-1 manifold and a twin headlight conversion.  I will always have a place in my heart for Sapphires even though I know there were never really very good.

Other cars I've owned:

Austin Metro 1.0 city

Ford Fiesta 1.1L

Honda Civic 1.6i16

Nissan Primera 2.0 SRi

Not a very prestigious list at all. In fact my BMW is the best car I have ever owned.

Started with a mini 850 with bucket seats, wide wheels big exhaust and tiny steering wheel   bliss    followed by mg metro, astra sr, capri 2.8i  (what a pose)  sadly severely shortened after not too long! no fault of my own. Hence BMW era started, Hartge 325i , Alpina C2, M635 csi , currently e34 M5 3.8, and e21 Baur 323i .
