Never heard of the phrase fogging the airbox except in your previous posts.

Only things I've heard of being done to the airbox is drilling it (the underside) and removing the trumpet inside the airbox, both have been tried by numerous memebers, and all have reverted to original as it doesn't make any difference...sorry it does make a difference, they noticed the car was down on power.

Have a look here, and do a search. As far as I know, this is where "Fogging" comes from.

A general point:

Increasing the airflow by whatever method, drilling holes, using a tea strainer for a filter, etc, will only improve power if the engine is not getting enough airflow at present. If you believe that ten minutes with a black & decker will produce results that BMW engineers couldn't have predicted, give it a go.

Poor engine design is not a feature that we associate with BMW, and although some engines from other manufacturers may be throttled by poor airflow, your not going to see much of a difference.

It's a different matter if you have modified your engine especially when using a turbo or supercharger, or if you have ported the engine and are using wild cams. Air flow may well become a limiting factor.

Cheers, Neil

E36s respond to cone filters when the air intake is shielded from the general engine bay. Fogging should work in theory as it gets cold air to the intake, various other kits are available to shield the cone. However...... E36s (apart from 323/328 and that's a throttle body "problem") aren't particularly short on intake, so any/most benefit will be seen in conjunction with other mods.
