I have a dreaded problem. My screen wash tank or hoses are completely screwed. When I pull the wash lever nothing but a little tinkle of fluid comes out and when I went to fill up the tank the mixture just poured out on to the floor. Has anyone else encountered the same problem? |

First thought was your washer jets may be blocked but there is something more sinister going on... Tom aka 'Toxic' gave a good post on this a while back, something to do with blocked breather pipe or something I think. Read this post and scroll down to read Tom's answer If I fill up my washer bottle right to the top, the fluid comes out just infront of the offside front wheel from the underside of the bumper and the level sits about 50 mm from the top cap. Andrew, was it the plunger at fault in your case? |

If it helps, I recently had a healthy sounding pump, full bottle, but only a dribble from the jets. I found a join in the water pipe as it makes it's way across the engine bay. Using a foot pump and the pointed plastic adapter (used for inflatables), I first blew out the jet end. When this didn't work, I blew down t'other end to the bottle in the wing. After much gurgling, all was ok and jets now fine. I suspect the breather mechanism had got stuck. Try this before you strip your inner wing to bits to access the pump etc.... |

Ian That sounds a good plan. Thanks Tom No I haven't got round to investigating it yet. That is on the books for this summer after having put the 523i badge back on. Andrew |

It was just my hose which became disconnected from the jet plastic pipe, and all is working and squirting fine now. |

Happened in my mothers 1998 520; had to get the pipe replaced; fortunately, it was under warranty (the mechanic is one of my friends, and said it was an absolute killer of a job; had to strip out loads of bits).
