Could someone please advise on the status of the following events that are listed in the NE Region's events section of the website:

April 2005
Go Karting - TBC
BMW Quiz - Round 2 TBC Team Names Required Demonstrate your knowledge.
Drive & Dine - TBC

Did any/or are any of these events taking place?

May 2005
Rockingham 21, 22/05/2005 - BMW Gathering.
Lakeland Drive 15/05/2005- Day Trip To Windermere and surrounding Area.
??/05/05 The Car Club is proposing holding a sponsored drive for charity. The plan is to drive in stages, as far as possible, around the coast of Britain. While this is proposed for possibly May 2005, and the planning will be huge, I've offered to help with the North East stage, which is between Whitby and Berwick. Apart from being for a good cause, this event can be turned around to our advantage. If we can attract enough who would like to take part, I will contact local newspapers and TV companies for some sort of media coverage/publicity. It's all early days yet, but I think that this could be a big event for the North East.

Are any of these events further on?  Will they be happening?

I'd like to know because I need to have a degree of notice if I'm to be able to support or attend any regional events.

If the April events took place, how did people find out about them? If they didn't take place, is there somewhere I can go to find out that they've been cancelled or get an update on what is happening with them?

Also, is the May Charity Run the same that is listed in the thread about a Coast Run?  I've posted in that thread but received no real information on who is organising what or indeed if it is still going ahead.  Are they different events?

I'm not trying to be awkward with any of these questions but recently everything seems to have gone quiet to the point of absolute silence and I wondered if there is something I or anyone else can do to assist?

It would be a crying shame to see our activity remain at the level it seems to be at right now, particularly after two months of seemingly high interest that appears to have completely disappeared after the joint meet (and a successful one as I understood it?) with the Durham Thoroughbreds Group?

I've emailed Mick with info about the Drive & Dine to the Dyke Neuk in July.  I'm sure he'll mention it at the meeting on the 4th.

Once holidays are out of the way I intend to get back into things.

I remember a road movie from the '70s or 80's set in New Zealand called "Goodbye Pork Pie".  I think you need to change your logon name!

The back is 100% (I think) now. Is the next meet this week or next week?

Been a cracking day of sun today and I managed to get 90 minutes of driving around with the hood down this afternoon.

Spent the morning using a Maguiars Quick Clay bar with the Spray Detailerand then followed it up with Carnauba Wax (Stage III).  Well pleased with the results and certainly drew a few comments when driving through Darras Hall (and I had a stop to chat with the owner of a gorgeous 05 plated C4S Convertible in Lapis Blue - he actually shouted to me whilst at the traffic lights, wanting to know what I used to polish the car!  We then had a good 15 minute chat in which I discovered he'd been waiting 7 months for the car and then wished he bought another colour!  I offered him a swap...alas he didn't take me up on it!).

Had a cracking drive round the Dales today. Up to Aysgarth Falls, then up to Hardraw Force behind the Green Dragon.

Then it was back up by Hawes and the Buttertubs, Muker, and Masham (and a few people will know what they make there..) The it was back on to the A1, and off at the A59 Harrogate road to York.

The roads can be very twisty and inclines steep, which makes for some very enjoyable driving (in fair sunny weather like we had today).

Just thought I'd mention the area in case anyone decides it would be a good idea to have a group jaunt around one weekend.

One of the last 'drives' I organised back in 99/2000 was a Dales drive.
The National Cycle Route had just come out so I used that as a starting point and then added a few points of my own.

Briefly, we met for lunch in Bainbridge then on to Hawes over the 'tubs, meandered along Swaledale, back over Redmire Moor to the Falls along Wensleydale to West Witton and then down along Coverdale including the decsent down Park Rash (Englands steepest) into Kettlewell, then the easy roads back down Wharfedale and ended the day with supper at Harry Ramsdens.

That was one of the best club days out I can remember and my kids still talk about it.. some of the roads we used are not for the feint hearted and tackling them in a left hand drive M3 with a heavy duty clutch was a bit of an adventure.

I am sure the timing is right to plan a similar event as there seems to be a lot of activity and enthusiasm in our region again.

Will you be at the meeting in Howden on Tuesday?

Oh for the want of a car...I moved up here eager to go prowling in the car only to have my fun curtailed by my unadventurous GP..

Nick - I'll be bringing my diary Tuesday night and that route sounds fabulous, so it's surely a matter of when?

I was over at Bolton Abbey (in convoy with a Yellow 348 Spider with LOUD tubi exhaust, 500 bhp 996 TT and a fabulous CSL) via Tadcaster/Boroughbridge/Ripon/Pately Bridge, so hi   if we saw you.

What time is the start of the meet? I'm working (I hope, not had word yet if I've got the job) out of York, Hambleton to be precise. So not sure what time I'll be getting back home.

Come on lads! Keep off those roads in cars - they're only suitable for motor biking. If you're driving and meet another car you have to slow down or pull in and you always get stuck behind the retired folks on their weekly jaunt......

I just love baiting the bikers on the roads that I know intimately.. you know youve done good when you lose 'em through the twisties cos when they finally catch up they give you a wave and a nod.

Just for the record, the web page mentioned in the first bit of this thread is NOT the BMW Car Club events list.
This can be seen at the BMW Car Club Events page
To find events for the North East, please click on the search link and then enter North as a search item - that gets all north east links. Every North East Section has access to this page to update items as required.

For the record, the club is getting free tickets for all members to the BMW M Power event at Rockingham. Members should apply direct to the office on 01225 709009 in May when they should be available.

We also have a club stand at the Classic and Vintage Vehicle Rally at the Yorkshire Post Motor Show at Harewood House on Sunday 19th of June. We have currently 20 places available on a first come first served basis. If you want to enter the competition, send a cheque for a fiver made out to Howard Walker, and I will send you a ticket. This allows you, your partner or friend, and two children into the site. Usual cost 32.50, so its a bargain. We will be holding a show and shine cum concourse on the day, but you don't have to compete.

On the 12th June, there is a lakes run organised by the MG Car Club starting from WHOOP HALL Nr KIRBY LONSDALE and we are invited to join in. I have application forms so if you want one email me
(cost is 6 per car)
I will advise when we have some more events on the go.

Howard Walker
