Hello,

I'm new to BMW's but have owned a lot of very desirable automotive icons.

Am considering buying an 850ci and would like to know if there are any common failings (I was advised against the 840 due to cylinder liner wear problems?).

At what year did the adoptive auto box become standard or was it always an option?

Thanks.

Geoff.

The 840 is a better car than the 850 alround. The one to go for is the 850 csi. The 840's with nikasil problems should have either been rectified or if they havent yet had a problem they are very unlikely to get one.

Regards,

Thanks Rohan,

I was going for an 850ci anyway. Why do you say the 840ci is the better car?

Geoff.

you were going for an 850 ci but you want an 850 cSi. 840 is as fast, more economical and less scary when it goes wrong.
