hi there,

can anybody tell me if it is possible to fit a twin exhaust(i mean twin pipes..one each side of the the bumper) to a 1991 E34 M5? i know the later model E34 M5 had duel pipes but mine dont and i was wondering if it was possible to fit them to mine.

any help would be greatfull.

cheers

zavy.

The later e34 M5 did NOT have a pipe on either side. It can be done, but it
fouls the petrol tank and could result in kaboom!

The e39 did.

If you do a search on ebay.de you will find a few people selling what you are looking for e.g. this one :

The one in the pic above looks like a good idea, but I'd imagine you'd experience a power drop with that.

There's alot of science behind exhaust pipes - they're not simply metal pipes that take the exhaust gases from the engine at the front to the atmosphere out the back of the car.

For best results, both pipes should be exactly the same length and diameter.  I don't know if there's one readily available for your model, however there's no reason why you couldn't get one fabricated.

My suggestion would be to split the exhaust just downstream of the exhaust manifold on the engine.  As I said it's important to ensure both pipes are the same.

Take a look at this :-http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/upgrade/exhaust.htm

thanks alot guys for your info.... i think i will just stick to getting a decent back box for my car instead of 'ing around trying to get a dual pipe look.

can anyone suggest a good make (e.g magnex) for a back box?

i dont want to have one with D.T.M tails......cause i think they are

 ugly.

...oh...and resonable price is pretty important... lol

cheers for all ya help...

I can highly recommend Supersprint or Remus (similar quality) or if you want to spend a bit more money Eisenmann are supposed to be the best.

thanks miles for that info...i have heard of both of them...and i quite like the look of the supersprint designs......if they have some of their funkier back boxes available for the M5. dont want to spend a fortune, but want something that is classy and sounds purposeful....but not boomy.

do you know where the best place to shop for a back box is??

cheers.......

Motorsportworld stock a few different makes and were the cheapest when I bought my Supersprint system.
