I have a 1997 735i, the centre dash pixels are regularly missing for the main led display, Is there a cheap solution to the quoted £380 for a complete unit. On the odd occasion it all works fine, also I have a motorola international 2200 phone which I would like to get working anyone any ideas where to get requisite credit card size simcard which is 8pin apposed to the standard 6 pin simcard.

You can get a SIM card adaptor to take your current SIM.  Try mobile phone shop.

Just joined this site, been having lots of advice on this problem from across the pond in USA, over there, BMWNA are replacing the pixel displays that are starting to do exactly what yours is doing and they are doing it for FREE.

In this country BMW will not admit that there is a manufacture fault and therefore will not take the responsibility.

I have followed the lead of another UK 7 owner and contacted Watchdog to try and get some negative publicity and bully BMW into doing something about this problem.

Do the same and you never know we all might get through in the end, this is a problem that will eventually affect all models with this display, it will also eventually lead to losing the ability to display the correct mileage of the vehicle, although BMWGB say that this is not a problem as the mileage is stored in the OBC, so when your selling the car, the potential buyer need only whip out his/her laptop and BMW software, plug in and read the mileage, IN THE REAL WORLD of tyre kicking UK car buyers, your wad of cash is going to take one look at the corrupted miles display, accuse you of trying to rob him and run off into the sunset.

Get on to Watchdog with the rest of us and lets get BMW down out of the tree and back on terra firma where the real customer prowls.

It would be interesting if someone took BMW to the County Court 'Fast Track' (small claims) with evidence that BMWNA are replacing the units (fairly easy to obtain) at no cost, I wonder if BMW UK might settle before it actually got to Court just in case they lost.

There have been several people that have tried fixes, some more successful than others, if you are of a DIY persuasion go to Roadfly’s E38 board do a search and ask there for help.
