Anyone got a phone in their E31? What make/model is it? When I got my 850 it was pre-wired for a Nokia phone the size of a brick! The phone didn't work anyway so I took it out but kept the wiring in place, and now I'd like to replace it with something svelte and sexy! Any recommendations?

I just use a mobile. Having stuff in view in the car these days is bad news. When my brother owned my current car someone used a brick to smash the window and grab his car phone!!!!

I'd take it out when I parked (although where I live in Bavaria I could probably leave the windows down and still no-one would steal it). But I wanted to take advantage of the wiring in the car. I'm sure it's wired to mute the radio/cd when the phone rings, and there's a little microphone-looking thingie on the centre console which looks interesting too....

Must be nice to live somewhere where you can leave the windows down. I've travelled the world with my job and can't think of anywhere right now where you could do that!!!!

I know nothing about wired phones. Your handbook might help.

Bavaria is staunchly Catholic, extremely law-abiding, and stuck in about 1955!

No! But funnily enough German law states atht when a town reaches population of 50k, you are legally entitled to a brothel. Erding where I live hit 50k last year, so some enterprising chap immediately applied to turn a local hotel into aforesaid knocking shop. At which point the council redrew the town boundaries to cut the population...

Sniff

Just trawling through my BMW TIS program. It appears that pre-wiring for telephones started in 1988.  Also, phones became standard on 850i's from 1991.
