I don't know but the linked articles seem to think so.

Hey kbannon, that is exactly what I want. I want the lights to stay on just long enough for me to unlock the gear lock, install the radio face and start the car. Do you think this relay would work with my E30 if I replaced the relay above the glovebox? Thanks BeemaBoy |

I think the time delay relay is what keeps the lights lit for 15 or so
seconds after they are turned on (instead of going out
immediatley)

Hey, thanks. But my electronic knowledge is a lot worse than I would like it to be. Have a look at the link below. Would what he has got work on my E30? And what is he talking about when he says a BMW Time delay relay? http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?name=Forums&file=vi ewtopic&t=17642 Thanks BeemaBoy |

Hi Sorry to steal the post like this, but you have fixed the problem anyhow . To make the interior lights stay on with a delay, what do you need. Do you just need to replace that relay above the glove box with a time delay one? Just curios why an 86 325i has a delay but my 87 320i does not. Is there a kit or something from BMW that I can wire up to my car? Thanks BeemaBoy |

Problem eventually solved.
Relay which sits above the glove box was faulty. Thanks to all for their help on this. |

This is not the case on my e36 but by any chance is the indicator and sidelights on the same switch/stalk? its a weird problem your having. if you were having them at different times it would probably be easier to diagnose but since they may be related it could be difficult. if it had only been the interior lights going off when the door is closed then i would check the switch at the door. Try putting on the sidelights and brake lights with doors open and both doors closed and tell us what happens, might give us more of an idea

Check the rear number plate lights, if they are rusty you don't get an earth where the screws fix to the body and this can cause all types of weird problems, my on board computer used to go all weird on me because of this. I had to carefully run an earth from the lights to a sound piece of body work and problem solved.

Hello All,
Im new to the club and thsi is my first post..I need some help with a electrical fault on my car. I have a '86 325i and the interior light that used to stay on for a few seconds before going off no longer does this, the lights just go off when the door shuts. Also, (i dont know if its related) the dash lights have suddenly stopped working as has the rear brake light but when the car is off and the indicator stalk is pushed up, the dash lights and brake lights work again?? The ninute you turn the engine they go out.. A strange one but if anyone could help, id appreciate it! Cheers Zahid |
