    Posted: 05-June-2005 at 11:45

Hi all, ive got a problem with my climate control, or a least part of it the prob is this ,the two vents that run a long side the screen will only blow out hot air  all the other vents blow hot or cold according to where the temp dial is set "ie as thay should" and if i shut off those vents the surrounding area (dash) get very hot so i have to open them so the dash don`t cook ,and when i say thay only blow hot i mean very hot air as in the hottest setting on the dial.

I really need help with this as its cooking the wife and kiddies, all the climate control is doing/working fine i just can not control the air temp to those two screen vents.

Ive posted this in the 7 series forum  as the heating system used in my 5 is proberly more commonly used for that model.

If any of you can help me with this problem or point me to someone who can i will be extremely gratefull.

Thankyou Andy

The only thinking that i can think off is that one off the vacuum pips has split that movers the vents and its leaking air but you are likely to have to remove the dash to fined out have a look behind the stereo and the glove box, good luck

Plenty of tech boffins on the 5er board:

http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/index.php?act=idx

what year/model of BMW do you have?

if its an E34, there are various well known issues with heater controls, check thru the posts in the e34 section.

please keep us informed

Whatever the issue is I think you are right that it is common to the E32 as mine does the same (drivers side only).  I assumed it was a jammed heater valve but the side vents can blow cold, only the windscreen demist vents are on hot all the time...

my E32's footwell vents will only blow very hot air, so I switch 'em off most of the year.

these heater faults are well known in E32/e34 circles.

the heater control panel is to blame in some cases, heater valves in others.

there are now 2 versions of the 7 series register forum, I'm not sure which one (if either) has all the archive posts for you to check.

Neither of them at the moment!  Might be worth a post in any case...
