 Topic: 745i 2002 problems/issues?

Hi all.
As a Newbie, please go easy on me.....
I'm looking at buying a 2002 745i. As this is soon after the launch of this model of 7 (sorry don't understand the coding E?? etc), are there any long term problems or issues that I should worry about or look for? Should any software problems and glitches have been sorted out a long time ago by the dealer for the previous owner(s)?
Your thoughts and superior knowledge would be appreciated.

Should be, It's a long old task on the new 7 with all the gear but go through all the kit and make shour it all works well, any problems will of likely have come up and bean fix now. good luck

Hi, and welcome to the board!
The new 7 (e65 by the way) had numerous update packages done to the software, and these ironed out glitches on the earlier cars, so it would be wise to ensure all updates have been done to the car you'd be looking at (easy if you're buying at a BMW dealer). But you'll have to bear in mind that the earlier e65's had a more complicated I drive system, and the ones sold 10/12 mths after intro had a simpler system fitted. Apart from that, just ensure everything works as it should. And I take it you'll be getting the warranty with it, as without one I think you'll be going into uncharted waters and could cost you a fortune if anything does go wrong! Not cars to repair cheaply, and bodging the electrics would be fool hardy (if possible?)

Yes I will ONLY be purchasing with warranty. I'm currently running an Audi A8, and I've had enough of big bills recently, for what should be simple and cheap fixes. £850 for a feul pump replacement being the latest 
Time for a test drive I think.

I would avoid the early version of any car like the plague.
there were loads of faults & glitches with the E65.
Extreme caution is advised, even when dealing with a BMW warranted car.

Only buy this car with FBMWSH and a BMW warranty (no other), you should have the option to extend this for several years, year on year. Also, HPI it, if not part of the sales contract.
If you have the above cover, I would not worry too much. This is still, one hell of a car and BMW spent £M's and £M's in it's development and testing. BMW's warranty/goodwill, if car has been maintained in their network, is second to none.
