I agree with Rob, replace the tyres, you'll notice an improvement right away.

Have you tried the steering UJ, mine has play in it and this can cause it,

ETA, I glad you can uses yours as a second car, I have to run mine every day and it cost a bomb in fuel, 200 miles a week in it, but hay couldn't have it any other way
