One of my mates bought me some nifty replacement carbon BMw badges off Ebay for bonnet and boot (E36 3 series).

Problem is I can't see how easily to get the old ones off as both are inaccessible from behind. I assume they have clips behind to hold them in place and think if I try and force them I'll end up with no badges at all and some detached clips rattling around the body for ever more!

Has anybody else replaced these badges or have any ideas?

On a slightly related theme, I saw an E60 (new) 5 series with a 523i badge on it a few days ago. I wonder was it a 520i owner wanting to appear bigger or was it a larger engined car wanting to appear smaller!

Hi

First post, just joined the forum!

Anybody know how the boot badges are held on, like the 330ci thing etc. I'd like to remove them. A guy told me they 'Glued' on and can be removed with a hair dryer! Can anyone confirm this.

Thanks

Hi welcome to the forum and hopefully the club

Boil a kettel of water and pour over badges and they will almost fall off. This is the way your BMW Dealer would do it also

Any remaining glue/sticky stuff should just wipe off

Do not use a screw driver

Em wouldn't pouring boiling water over your body work not damage the paint work?  Defo a polish job after!

Use a flat plastic scraper to get badges off, like Pete says not using a screwdriver.  I have just stuck back on a 523 i badge on my boot lid.

Andrew

PS I'm sure I have seen an E60 badged as a 523 too!

Be exclusive and drive a Petrol 5 Series!

I used dental floss to remove the badges from the boot of my E32.

My dealer told me about the hairdryer trick.  Get it warm enough to melt the glue and it will come off without resorting to a screwdriver.  It shouldn't need to be boiling to come off...!
