hi all

i am about to replace the alloys and tyres on my 87 635csi. She currently wears 235/45 17' Style 5's. I would like to replace with same, but I have had a really difficult time trying to locate some. Any ideas??

What alternatives do you suggest? What sizes do you use? I've asked John -from the homonymous J Nerd's bmw site- and he suggests 16's so that the car runs better.

Also what about offsets? I am a bit apprehensive in case i get the wrong stuf... I reckon that with decent tyres -pirellis rossos?- it should come close to 1k . Does it sound reasonable?

many thanks guys

Niko

I personally prefer the 17" deep dish Alpinas, but I am biased!

I haven't driven one on 16" wheels but I imagine the ride is slightly better.
James Sohl is running 16" Alpina on his 635.

Rondells look nice too IMO, especially on the Highline models.

I know of a new set of 17" deep dish Alpinas for sale: 8.5x17 fronts and
9.5x17 rears. PM me if you want the details.

I was going to suggest Alpinas also - they *are* the business!

The BMW Style 32's from an E39 Sport are similar to Alpinas without being quite so fiddly to clean. Cheaper too.

I was seriously looking at the Rondell 58's which are 8.5" x 17 which are a BBS style.

The Style 32's are 8" x17 (& 9" x 17 rear if from a Sport). You'll need the plastic hubcentric rings to fit them on a Six.

I'm using 255/40 rear & 235/40 front (for a slightly nose-down rather than nose-up stance). I've had no rubbing problems even 4 up.

I'm using Goodyear Eagle F1's which are excellent, especially in the wet. Cost was around £105 fronts & £120 rears.

255/40 x 17" have an almost identical rolling circumference to the 240/45 415 TRX's.
