Using a 530 ecu on 525?

   My ecu recently packed up on my e34 525 12v (Somehow the eprom had cracked) and by mistake I purchased a 530 ecu. I was told by BMW that it would not run, however, I tried it anyway and it seams to be running better than before and with more power. It even seams to have eliminated the 3500rpm flatspot.
Firstly, will this damage the engine, and secondly, if I was to use the eprom from the 530 in the 525's ecu would it work any better?
