After my older brother hit my front passenger side wheel into the kerbside whilst trying to negotiate a bend at 60mph I now get a thrumming noise which can be heard when driving over 45mph. The noise seems to get faster as the speed increases and really sounds quite scary.

I have had all the bushes and thrust arms inspected and found no faults. The OSF Shock absorber has slight play in it though which I believe is also causing some metal to metal clunking when driving at slow speeds and going over bumps in the road.

This is a real bummer as my car was running in first class condition before my jackass brother decided to wreck it thinking he was in some kinda Porsche or Ferrari. I hope someone will be able to give me some kind of clue as to what damage I am looking at here even if it is the entire driveshaft as the impending doom of the stealer is looming ever so closer.

I would guess the front wheel has been knocked out of alignment. It may
be as simple as getting a wheel alignment done, preferably 4 - wheel.

Just throwing an idea in.... could be a wheel bearing from the noise you;re describing. A short sharp shock can be enough to damage one sometimes. I'm not gonna guarantee it but it may be worth checking. I had this happen on a Renault 5 Turbo I had, got a sharp shock from a pot hole and did the wheel bearing!

Keep us posted though!

E39 Front wheel bearings do not take any abuse.

I'd change it.

The alignment was done at a centre called Meritire in Woking, Surrey where my brother lives.  As it is some 40 miles away I am not going to bother with the hassle of communicating with them.

I had a brainstorm that it could all be down to the front brake discs as they must have taken a lot of force from the impact.  They were also warped and look as though they may even be the original first discs ever fitted to the car.  I shall have them changed after the car comes back from the bodyshop.  It went in today to have a new NSF wing fitted also various panels along the damaged side will be sprayed with nice new paint.
