Have you measured the suppy voltage?, if thats ok, you will need to strip the clock, check around the crystal/resonater, pay paticular attentin to the caps in this area, I'm assuming you have a display if power is ok, but the clock isnt counting, you arent being very specific

Sorry Nigel, I'm new to this game.  There is no display showing atall.  However I shall have a go at removing the clock and checking the wiring, etc.  Thanks for your help.

Vijot

Depending on the type of clock you have, I may have a spare.

Nigel

I purchased the Haynes manual and my problem may be a bulb.  I need to remove the clock and check that out first.  If that does not work I shall come back to you.  Thanks for your help.

Yeah, could just be the bulb. shine a torch at the display to see if there is actually any time showing. I had the same prob when I swapped my digital clock and fitted an onboard computer. I thought the computer was off when really there was no backlit illumination.

Thanks Nigel and Gouldsoul,  it was just a bulb.  Gouldsoul does the computer simply replace the clock or is it more complicated.

Gouldsoul? who hell he?  Anyway. Yeah, onboard computer is a piece of cake. Take out instrument cluster, unscrew the panel that the clock is in & replace it with the panel that the computer is in. Also you will need the controller relay and chime module which houses in a plastic case under the drivers side of the dash but you will need mounting brackets from BMW to actually mount the unit.

There is one main wiring loom. This has a green plug that fits in2 the board computer, a yellow one that fits in the instrument cluster and a 3way connector that fits in2 the relay then doubles up to power up the chime module as well.

There are two additional sockets in the loom. There is a 2 pin connector that the outside temperature probe fits in2 (the probe is located near to the towing eye on the nearside) and there is also a multi-plug that you can plug the remote control in2 (an indicator stalk with "BC" on the end (Board Computer) which you push in to scroll through all the options on the screen).

There is also an additional 4way wire that you can plug in2 the controller relay if you want to use the keypad immobiliser feature on the computer. However, you will need an additional horn that mounts behind the battery and powers up from fuse 8 if my memory serves me correctly. 4 wires on 2nd loom - it really depends on the type of engine you are fitting it to. If it is a motronic system you would wire it in2 terminal 86 of the main relay. If you have the LH Jetronic system like mine which uses transistorised ignition you can just patch it inline the main ignition feed.

Its like anything else. Its easy if you know how. Its a hell of a lot easier than fitting an entire active check control system. that took me 2 days!! teehee

Thanks Gouldsoul,

I think I will be grateful for the time.  Installing computer can wait until my brain recovers from reading the instructions.
