I would use the the forum, i do not currently use this forum as there is not an alpina section.

surely increasing members to the forum is what its all about.

i think you'll be surprised how many people would use the forum once word got round.

thanks realthing for pointing out that Alpina are a manufacturer not a tuning company.

as far as links to bmw: Bmw use alot of alpina's work themselves ei: the bmw x5 is range is powered by alpina engines from the b10 v8

the bmw 535d came about due to work done on the D10

and also the mini cooper s works was an alpina development ,etc, etc

I bet ther isn't more than half a dozen, although they probably out number the 8 series owners...

Interesting!

A visit to Donnington this Sunday should prove illuminating to many of you. The relaunch of the Alpina section is going to be extremely well attended by Alpina owners. There is an indoor display with a wide range of Alpinas from the early days up to the latest B5. A separate outdoor section will be where the rest of us will be displaying our pride and joys.

One question I have always asked (rhetorically) is:

"If Alpina are completely separate from BMW, how can they afford to produce their M-beaters at the same price as the M's?"

You will be very surprised to know that Alpina are involved in the vast majority of all BMW's long term performance development work. Whilst they are a manufacturer in their own right, they work hand-in-hand with BMW. Before BMW started racing M's, they raced Alpina badged vehicles. Perhaps there is something about a 40 year relationship that counts for something.

For myself, 300bhp in an E46 Touring which is one of only 8 in the UK and 116 worldwide is reason enough ...

See you at Donnington - I can guarantee that all the Alpina owners present will take time to explain the subtle differences that make Alpina's the other side of the M power coin.

Take care

Getting back on topic...
What is the situation with the Aplina Register in the club? I believe Andy Douglas (is he a forum member) will be in charge.
Is there/will there be an ACS register or one for other aftermarket manufacturers?

see above....the alpina register will be relaunched at the total bmw show on sunday at donnington park racetrack

no idea about registers for aftermarket tuners... alpina isnt aftermarket, they buy the bodyshells from bmw and then hand-build the cars

I didn't suggest Alpina was an aftermarket tuner. I was already aware that they were a recognised manufacturer.

Alpina,s come down the BMW production Line---with other BMW models.Alpina have their own 80+ Employee,s working inside the Factory.

Alpina were doing the Tuning and Winning of Race,s--Before M was formed.I have driven LHD Alpinas for 24 years, from when Tom Walkinshaw was the concession.

Will see all Fans on Sunday at the Alpina Display.

there must be at least twelve of us now, give it a go,

out of interest my V5 registration document states the manufacturer as Alpina and not BMW

Surprised that nobody posted up after the Donington show, to say what a great sight so many Alpina,s were in one place.Must have been 15+ of most models. The interest shown was more than expected, with many questions asked and photo,s taken.

Andy Douglas is just what was needed to get some Alpina motivation fired up, after the past hibernation--time to getup and GO.

As always, he needs our support if we want to make progress, and with owners spread out across the country--WE need to make the effort to get organised--maybe an Alpina or 3 at regional shows so that owners are not driving hundreds of miles to take part , and other Alpina fans get a chance of close up views.

couldn't agree more, we had two at the aberdeen meeting last week (mine and Chas C) but hopefully my regional newspaper stint will encourage more scottish owners to come forward, who knows, maybe we could have enough dotted around to make a seperate stand at a show like alford motorvation or alness car rally
