Courtesy of anothe website:

An E30 Motorsport Convertible was a "Special Edition" 325i Convertible, if you like to call it that. Only made on H and J plate in 1991, very, very few in 1992. There are claims of some G plate ones, but none have been confirmed really by BMW. At least, BMW GB told me they only had them on H or J.

There were very limited numbers made by BMW, ONLY for the U.K market. 3 different colours, Macau/Mauritius Blue, Sebring Grey and Calypso Red.

The major difference was all the Motorsport/M-Technic items, which cost a whopping 5000 more than a standard 325i Convertible.

They ALWAYS came with unique leather interiors - Lotus White (mostly on the Macau Blue and the Calypso Red), Motorsport Bubble leather (usually grey-ish, hence more common on the Sebring Grey), and IF requested, all black Sports leather, but to Motorsport spec, which meant leather doorcards, leather centre console, leather gearknob, etc.

These cars also came with the Electric/Power hood, as opposed to the cheaper option of manual or Hydraulic power hood (I've never seen a hydraulic hood yet !)

All came fitted with M-Tech suspension, uprated usually with Bilstein dampers as M-Tech, instead of Sachs/Boge M-Tech ones.

The Sebring Grey ones came with Motorsport spec 15" BBS/Cross-spokes, which were regular 15" BBS, but the inside section was painted a dark grey-ish colour, known commonly as Nogaro Silver.

Apart from that, no other difference performance-wise. Just a much higher spec car in terms of interiors, suspension, power hood.

Dave (DHawke) just sold his lovely Sebring Grey, so that leaves just mine, plus a Macau Blue owned by another E30Zone member. I also know of a mate's brother, who has the rarest Calypso Red.

These cars are VERY rare to find in good condition. Far too many have ended up in the wrong hands, but real good examples can fetch big money still. Look at this month's UsedCarBuyer magazine - article comparing all the 3 Series cars - my car is one of the featured cars.

I hope I've covered most points....

Hope this helps!
Phil

My Motorsport cab is a G reg - and it is genuine [I got the original spec from BMW which includes the Motorsport code], though as you can see, the early ones came without the Mtech2 body-kit.

Just call a BMW dealer with the reg or vin number of the car you looking at and they can give the the spec and codes. Though I dont think they came as an F reg? Im 99.9% sure all M'sport cabs came with an electric roof - and the 'silver lotus leather' you refer to must be wrong; lotus leather was white. They were also trimmed with leather everywhere! See my centre tunnel [around the gear-box, handbrake etc], all lovely leather.

Macau blue and Maurituis blue is also different colours; Macau a little darker. Mine is Nogaro silver [though I think this colour M'sport cab was only produced in 89?].

I'll find you a good link in a bit - which loads of pics and info.
