hi there,my car doesn't want to start for around 20-30mins after most runs of even a short distance and it is also running down the battery if left for over a week{this is easily cured, but i'm wondering if the 2 are connected?] on advice i've changed the TDC, the ECU and the starter motor all to no avail, any suggestions would be deeply appreciated.also,it never seems to start if my bloody girlfriend is in it,is this common?

1. Dump the girlfriend  - she's probably got the same electrical phenomena as Ben....

2. Are there any aftermarket alarms in the car? Do these run off the main battery?

3. I wonder - having seen what happened to Ben - whether something's shorting to "ground" which shouldn't......

Yeah, remove any after market stuff, or check the wiring in any case. I had an aweful old Serpistar alarm that I yanked out and filed under B. Check the fuses as well, although im sure you have, since a short will probably blow a fuse.

I wish I could offer you more, but I am severely more bitter than you at the moment, as mine wont start at all!

thanks for the replies, the cars 1986 and has an immobiliser  but i dont know if its factory or not, could this be a part of the problem? when it dosent start there are no clicking noises at all.it has an alarm so i'll work on that to make sure its 100% disconnected, not sure i've still got the TDC sensor but i'll have a dig around
