Well, there we go then.  My 2800cs departed on a trailer yesterday.

After 24 years in my "care", she is off to pastured greener.

The guy who bought the car is hoping to make a track day special out of it, as a replica of the Alexander Calder Art Car (3.0csl). Sounds very exciting. I got decent money, and the car is going to someone who is excited about it.

So all round, a good, if sad day.

That's the worst thing ever watching your pride and joy departing especialy all the years that you have had it.

Having sold my 1973 Ro80 in the last week, I know how he feels....

But I know it's going to a good home; the buyer already owns 10 Ro80s!

On balance, far better that the car goes somewhere it will be fully appreciated.  I sold it with a huge file of photos of the rest we did in the 80's. The guy who has bought it has promised me he will update me with "Chapter 2" as it goes through the metamorphosis into the Art Car.  I think it's really exciting.

I have come to terms with it, and am already making the most of the space it creates in my garage.

I was only 14 when I got the car, and have had it for more than half my life, so it is a little strange, but we always have to move forwards.

I forgot to mention .

I've been looking for posts on this car (the 3.0csi) and this is the first I've seen, perhaps I haven't looked hard enough.

We have to remember this car was the Top of the range BMW in the early 70's and a ground breaking machine for the German Bike manufacturer (I don't know the market trends for aero engines of the 70's)

this car dominated all competitors/mass market car manufacturers across the whole world ,it was fast, handled better then most anything and it was supremely reliable. The 3.0 csi put BMW firmly on the car manufacturers map

lets have a exclusive forum for the old guys of BMW.

The greats

thanks for reading

William

Bill,

I am a rabid fan of the E9 coupe, and would love to see that.  However, it seems to me that there just aren't enough of us out there to make a go of it.  I did my best to organise Coupe Register events in my region a few years ago, and it was a real uphill struggle.

In my personal opinion, and with the greatest respect to owners and drivers of them, an E46 318ci is not an historic a BMW coupe.  However, that is just my opinion, and there are many very happy and enthusiastic owners of them.  If that keeps the forum going, then so well and good.  We have to be realistic, and the Coupe Forum is a great place, with new and old cars alike.

Different strokes for different folks.  Just my opinion mind you.

I still have the CSL, and it's not like me to be quite for too long, so you should still see posts about the older Coupes.

Well i certainly am trying to increase the usage and viewing of the older and big coupe cars. I have just taken over from Howards as Coupe Chairman and my main interest is with the E24's, but generallly try and cater for the E9's, E3's, E24's and E31's. Whilst all other owners of all models are welcome i try and encourage the older and rarer cars to join each other on meets. Ok i know the deliberate mistake in there that an E3 is not a coupe, but with only about 15 left in the UK and them looking like a slightly bigger CS coupe i think they are worth including within my remit as otherwise they have no one else that is interested in them.

The more we all work together the better it all gets for the lovers of the older slightly rare BMW's.

James
