For the second time in two years, the following fault has occurred on my car. The first time, neither BMW Assistance nor my local dealer could find any problems...
1) Car parked on the street overnight @ -10 deg C. On starting the car, the ABS light did not extinguish - indicating a problem with the system. Brakes worked fine - unsure of whether or not ABS was functioning as roads were icy and I didn't fancy trying it out. On arriving at my destination a short drive away, I turned the ignition off and could hear a 'buzzing' sound. 'Buzzing' sensation was also transmitted through the brake pedal.
2) Similar to (1) except the temperature was near or just above 0 deg C and the car had been garaged. Also got the chance to test the ABS and it was non-functional - car went immediately into a straight-line skid. On checking under the bonnet, a unit at the back right of the engine bay was the source of the 'buzzing'
Car is a 62k mile 1996 328i coupe (pre update). Pads and discs are OEM and not overly worn.
Anyone got any ideas what the fault could be?
