As my cold start issue is intermittent I've had the car to bmw to plug it
into their diagnostic system.

It is reporting that the DME is faulty and fails its startup check. Nothing
else is reported as faulty.

So it looks like a dodgy DME control unit is causing the problem but there
is a complication.

The last service on the car states an item 'DME repair' and pretty
expensive it was to! £225 + vat

So I am left with the dilemma, is the DME really faulty or is the BMW diag
detecting thats it been tampered with and defaulting to FAULTY??

Of course the easy way find out would be to try a known good one.

So does anyone have a spare DME that they would be prepare to sell or
lend or something to find out??

I'm also told that the DME is common to all M30 engines and therefore a
DME from a E28 535 or 735 of that era would also fit?

If noone has one, where is the best/cheapest place to get a second hand
one?

Many thanks

EBAY!

Have a search & even if you don't find one listed, contact some of the sellers who are breaking 6'ers.
you might find you can pick one up for as little as £5!

Good luck.

I have discovered a good stock on ebay including a potential candidate.

I've had it confirmed by BMW that the E32 735i and E34 535i ecu from Sept
86 onwards is also suitable.

Does anyone know the part number of the highline 635 ecu? and where it is?

Thanks
