I have an intermittent problem on a 1989 325i (E30). Sometimes it will miss for what seems like one Rev of the engine, sometimes it will cut out completely, or sometimes not start. This seems to be totally random, not hot, cold, wet etc... Just plain infuriating. Guess it's electrical. Oh and when she cuts completely, the Rev counter drops immediately to zero and most, maybe all the dashboard warning lamps come on.....

Any Ideas

Hi Peejay

Sounds like the problem i had with my 318se about a month ago. I was bricking myself at the time thinking Big Money my local BMW Garage pluged her in and within 2mins told me it was the Cam Sensor £65 all in.

Good Luck

Dennis

I have the exact same problem on my 89 3251 Sport. Love this car and do all my own maintenance, but this one has me stumped. I sure hope you're right Dennis. It would be great to get rid of this one little niggle. BTW, where is the cam sensor located?

Hi Tony

Sorry about your problem im affraid i don't know were it is located. The nice man at my locale BMW garage tuck the car into the workshop and fixed it. Well worth the £65.00.

Identical symptoms to Peejay. Abrupt engine cut outs lasting between0.1 and 3 seconds, sometimes failing to start, rev counter drops to zero even if the engine is physically turning over (overrun). Some days it gets bad, then goes for weeks/months without a murmer. Dread to think what would happen on a fast, accelerating corner. I'll bite the bullit and take it in for this one, just to make sure it is the cam sensor.
