Can't answer for E32 but E28 and E23 you take the complete cluster out and they're all on the back. Worth getting a duff one from the scrappy just for the bulbs!

thanks RubberKnees,

When you say Take the complete cluster out, What do you mean?

I guess the question I should have asked is how do I get access to the speedometer lights ? what bits do I have to undo/dismantle to be able to change the bulbs? Is it easy etc ?

Having now changed the water pump and alternator ( on seperate occasions ) I was hoping this would be an easier and simple 5 minute task.

Many thanks.

P.S. got any ideas on my heater problem ( listed on a different thread )

On a similarly aged 5 series, there are two screws at the top of the cluster, upwards.

It may be similar, worth a quick look.

Best Wishes

Nigel

Lol, we all were to start. Level with the top of the two main instruments but at the top front edge front (towards the steering wheel) you should find the two small philips screws Nigels mentions.

Undo them, and either move the wheel all the way forwards, or preferably take it off, and the whole instrument binnacle should slide out towards you - mind the wiring conncectors on the back.

Once it's out you'll see the bulb holders on the back, the big ones are the main speedo and rev counter lights, one is probably blown. It happens. It goes back the same way it comes out! Good luck.
