my original post was:

I have owned this car for 11 years. Just recently in the last 2 months, there have been occasions when it has taken several attempts to unlock the car with the remote.

On a couple of occasions I have had to resort to opening the car with the key, setting off the alarm. I have then switched off the alarm by inserting and turning a small key in a unit under the bonnet .

I replaced the battery in the car and the key fob , but I still have the problem occasionally.

Rather than use the remote,if I choose to lock the car with the door key in the drivers door, I then find that it will only unlock with the door key in the passenger door. Any suggestion will be appreciated.   Mikeamiri.

Update ; don't ask me how,I am so confused, but things changed after I fiddled and the problem has now got worse.

I had to manually unlock the pax door.

Now....Passenger front door will never lock.but I can lock the rest of the locks  from the drivers door, (after the ignition has been switched off)turning the key anti-clockwise.

However if I choose this method of locking, I cannot then unlock from either the boot or the drivers door. until I enter the car via permanently unlocked pax side,  swith ignition on and off.... Then I can unlock from the boot.

My current solution....I now resort to locking and unlocking from the boot, and leave the pax door unlocked all the time.

I am booked into the local garage in a couple of days but any suggestions would be appreciated in advance.

Regarding the lock on the pax door, I seem to have no luck in trying to lock it again with the key,  whichever way I try.

Maybe you should have told us which model. But as you say that you own the car 11 years, I assume it is an E32 7 series. There are a number of things which could go wrong. In winter time the greased doorlocks get hard to switch, a lot of gunk is inside the lock mechanism. I recently removed the locking system and cleaned all inside with strong cleaner, regreased it and it works now. Then you could have a defective microswitch in the doors, or a broken bracket inside, or the GM is not working fime, or often a broken wire in the drivers door on the wire loom from A-pillar to the door. Go to my website below and search for the link to Johan and Sean,, there look for body and there you will find the detailed repairs of all the described defects with a lot of pics.
