Help needed please, Lock solonoid switch

   I need to change my drivers door lock actuator but after stripping the door down I can't release the con rod holding the lock mechanism in place. Tried it twice now but can't get it to release. Do I need to remove the handle & lock barrell as well? Got a few days off coming up so Hoping its third time lucky. Can anyone who's fitted a new one to their car help me out with this one? Really frustrating becuase I can strip & reassemble the door in 5 minutes.
